Meeting Minutes
- Welcome to the Music Boosters
- We represent all music groups here at South River, not just band. There is Orchestra, Chorus, Jazz Band, Color Guard, Tri-M, Concert & Marching Band.
- Purpose – To support the kids financially and through volunteer support. We need many, many hands.
- 501(c)3 organization
- Introduction to the Board and Committee Chairs
- Pam Andrews is our School Administration Support

- Senior Class Activities – position is still open
- Things we do:
- Financially Support
- Food Services,
- Scary Strings
- Playathon
- Senior Recognition
- Chaperoning
- Marching Band Show Props
- Etc
- We keep the fees as low as possible. We have the lowest of all of the fees in Anne Arundel County.
- We fundraise. Monthly family dining out months.
- Greene Turtle
- All-American Steakhouse

- Chick-fil-A
- Aug 26 – First fundraiser of the year
- Maryland Renn Fest
- 21 volunteers – must have all 21 slots filled!
- Work the soda stands
- Our biggest single day fundraiser of the year – around $1600 in one day!
- Sign-up genius coming out soon. The sign-up sheet for the students is already out on the table.
- Transportation? Carpooling, drop-off, etc.
- Kids get breaks and 30 mins for lunch
- Cannot split the day between 2 people.
- Other fundraisers:
- Amazon Smile
- AppleBees Pancake fundraiser – never tried before, but looking into
- Suggestion: Flipgive (online stores)
- Suggestion: FunDrive (donations of clothes, small appliances, etc – paid by the pound – good for Spring cleaning – setup a one time drop-off)
- Suggestion: Working at the Navy Games – Alicia (color guard Mom) will e-mail us all of the information.
- Benevity – Corporate organization that does matching donations

- Bake Sales
- Dinner and a Show (Spring Concert)
- Destination Imagination – held here at South River – we sell food there
- 1st Annual Golf Tournament – want to have it this year

- Students can fundraise funds that go into their accounts
- Can be used to pay for fees, Spring Trip, etc
- This year is Disney. We only do Disney once every 4 years.
- Yankee Candle, Claire’s Gourmet, and Mixed Bags (online version)
- Student Activity Fees
- Marching Band is mostly here
- Field Show Fee ($100)
- Uniform Fee – New (to us) Uniforms!!
- Old uniforms were purchased in 1997
- Dinkles – $34 for new shoes (everyone must have their own shoes)
- We will do a bulk order of the shoes
- Bibs
- Bibs you own, you keep
- You get bibs now as part of the uniform and they must be returned
- White socks for marching season, black socks for concert season.
- Vest – for concert band (if in class)
- Boys – We buy the vest, you buy tuxedo pants and shorts.
- Girls – You buy the dress.
- If you do not need the dress or dinkles at the end of the year, you can donate them and we’ll sell them at half price.

- Comparatively Speaking – other local schools charge more

- Broadneck – $590
- Can’t afford it?
- Talk to us, we can work something out. We never want a child not to participate because they can’t afford it.
- Where does the money go?
- Transportation and truck rentals (Marching Band, Scary Strings, etc)
- 2 buses = $1500
- Music (band, orchestra, chorus, jazz, etc) & drills
- Instrument repairs and purchases
- Etc

- Volunteers – Parent volunteers are just as important as the funds
- Serving food
- Every football game needs 12-14 volunteers
- Tournaments need 15+ volunteers
- Every committee needs more than just the chair
- Background check needed for volunteering – instructions on AACPS website

- After football games – many of the parents and students go to iHop after the game to decompress and to get to know each other better
- BandFam – the students make great friendships that will last well beyond high school
- Good time to meet and get to know the other parents
