Our Music Department vision statement this year is: “Building a stronger Music Community through “Unity!”
Hello South River Music Department Families!!
It’s almost Marching Band Season!! Less than a month away! The Marching Band students are working hard on their STRANGER THINGS themed program!
We are looking for parent volunteers to help set up the field and help move props, as well as Music Students to run the HAWKS flags with us, you don’t have to be in band to come support the program!
Please find listed below the Home games for the 2023-2024 Fall Season where we will be Marching and performing, as well as our Anne Arundel County Marching Band Exhibition which we are hosting at South River this year.
Friday, September 1, 6:30 pm start time
Friday, September 8, 6:00 pm start time
Friday, October 6, Homecoming, 6:00 pm start time
Friday, October 13, Senior Band Member recognition evening, 6:00 pm start time, families of Seniors arrive at 5:15 pm for 5:30 pm walkover, announcements and pictures
Wednesday, October 18, Anne Arundel County Marching Band Exhibition (we will need a lot of parent volunteers to help with concessions, parking attendants, souvenir sales, ticket sales and collections, band performance coordination, etc.) We will be sending out notifications as we get closer to the date and are asking for parents of all the music programs to support Ms. Smith and the Administration and Mr. Cavanaugh in assuring the Marching Band Exhibition runs smoothly. The County decides which schools host which events through out the year, and this year is our turn for Marching Band, it’s a great fundraising opportunity for us as well!
Friday, October 27, 6:00 pm start time
If you have any questions, or want to volunteer, please email us at [email protected] or look for the South River High School Music Boosters Google sign-up forms that will be coming out each week of a home game.
For those parents new to the program, the students stay after school on these Fridays for practice, a pizza dinner (students bring $5 to cover their pizza and drink), they change into their uniforms and march over to the field 15-20 minutes before the beginning of the game where they perform the National Anthem at 5-10 minutes before the game begins. Each week you will get an email from Mr. Cavanaugh and the Music Boosters with the schedule and the request for help.
As always, please be aware that the County Athletics Department can change the beginning time of the game if there are problems that arise or conflicts. If that happens, emails and notifications will go out immediately.
Thank you and have a great day!
